Theatre is about a team of people working together to tell a story. The Norfolk Community Theatre strives to bring members of the community together to relish in creativity. It allows members of the community to utilize their creative sides and make connections with other individuals who share their passion for art, performance and the written word. Norfolk Community Theatre produces 3 full length shows each season and in the summer collaborates with the Norfolk Arts Center to produce a youth theatre camp which culminates in two performances by camp participants.
Theatre creates opportunities to build confidence, poise, and teamwork as well as the liberty to explore language and the wriiten word in a fully enriching way.The objective of the Norfolk Youth Theatre is to provide a theatre experience unlike any available in the area. The NYT will provide youth from Norfolk and the surrounding area the opportunity to work on a full scale production with roles both on stage and behind the scenes. The youth will be involved in acting as well as set construction, costume manufacturing, and prop procurement. The camp experience will teach area youth about the mechanics of working in a theatre company. Youth will also develop their skills and talents through participation in acting workshops where they will be introduced to traditional methods of contemporary American acting.
